There's no denying that Wanda Maximoff is one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's bonafide MVPs for Phase Four and while many believed she'll continue her dominance in future films, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seemingly put an end to the Harbinger of Chaos.

There's been a lot of intrigue surrounding the Scarlet Witch's future in the MCU, especially considering Marvel Studios didn't announce Elizabeth Olsen's rumored solo project during the studio's grand comeback at San Diego Comic-Con last month. D23 Expo doesn't all that promising either for the hero-turned-villain and as it stands, Wanda isn't listed for future projects.

Now, Multiverse of Madness screenwriter Michael Waldron is addressing the character's intriguing future in the billion-dollar franchise. Speaking with Empire, he teased: "She’s removing herself from the board… For now? Forever? We’ll see. I’d like to see her again…"

Waldron also added that Wanda's "death" during the film's closing moments is up for interpretation. He added: "I think that’s up for interpretation. She made some kind of sacrificial act that destroyed the Darkhold in every universe, which is protecting Wanda in every universe from being seduced by the Darkhold. Whether she’s dead or not remains to be seen. I know what it’s like to love characters and to not want them to be gone and to hate when they do bad things. But that’s part of the fun of watching stuff and getting swept up in it."

Olsen seems to be taking a much-deserved break from the MCU but I believe she'll be back for future projects. I would be a shame though if Marvel Studios doesn't give her a solo outing in 2024 which marks the 60th anniversary of the Scarlet Witch.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is available for streaming on Disney+.
