Doctor Strange 2 Producer Unveils The Meaning of The Multiverse of Madness Title

Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 is focusing on the concept of the Multiverse, hinting from Doctor Strange's Avengers: Endgame keyline, "The Multiverse is a concept of which we know frighteningly little." Now, we will finally get more ideas on what the Multiverse is all about in Doctor Strange's sequel, Multiverse of Madness.

From last year's Spiderman: No Way Home, we briefly got an idea of what the Multiverse is. It can connect to different worlds and different characters from previous franchises of Marvel can make an appearance in future films. In the recent trailers of Multiverse of Madness, fans speculate that some characters like X-Men's Professor X and Fantastic 4's Reed Richards are rumored to appear in the film. Rumors continuously spread around the internet that there are more characters that will debut in the film.

In Disney's D23 Spring Issue, producer Richie Palmer discussed the title of the film and how it holds many different meanings:

"We honor each definition of the word 'madness' in this movie. For example, it's not just the craziness of what an alternate universe might look like, feel like, or sound like. When you see that there are infinite versions of yourself across infinite universes and you're a different person in them different facets of you rise to the top."

Palmer continued by explaining what different variants from another universe can be a total opposite of the character.

"Maybe Stephen meets a few of these guys and wonders, "Oh, am I capable of what that person's capable of? Are they capable of what I'm capable of?” And that can be maddening, Seeing other versions of yourself make decisions that you would not make can, for better or worse, be maddening- whether that's for Doctor Strange, for Wanda, or for any of our characters."

Palmer also explained that the film explores more of the character's inner conflict. Noting that 'the scariest monsters are the ones that dwell within us,' which seems to particularly refer to Wanda as she is rumored to be a villain of the film.

Looks like things are really getting out of hand. Now that Captain America and Iron Man are retired from their roles, it seems like it is a good idea to pass the torch to Doctor Strange as the new leader of the Avengers while dealing with the problems of the Multiverse.

Whether Multiverse of Madness will be wrapping up the events from Loki, Wandavision, and No Way Home or it could be another start for a new brand new saga, the Multiverse is surely a long-term project for the MCU.

Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness will be in theaters, on May 6.
