The trailer for Doctor Sleep is finally here and it looks like the adaptation of the Stephen King novel will still be very much connected to Stanley Kubrick's version of The Shining. Interestingly, the teaser confirms that the sequel will revisit Danny Torrance's time in the Overlook Hotel.
The trailer offered glimpses at several recreations of Kubrick's iconic shots from The Shining. For instance, we see little Danny on his tricycle exploring the halls of the Overlook Hotel. While Kubrick's version (left) shows the carpet being more orange, the Doctor Sleep shot reveals a carpet being more yellow (right).
We also get a glimpse at the Grady Twins at the end of the hall. While Kubrick opted to go for brighter colors in the shot (left), the new movie has a darker feel (right).
Interestingly, there's still a scene featured in the Doctor Sleep trailer that actually came from Kubrick's 1980 movie. Director Mike Flanagan revealed to Bloody Disgusting that it's the one scene that's pretty difficult to replicate.
"There's only one shot in the trailer you saw that's actually his footage, and that's the shot of the bloody elevators," Flanagan said. "Everything else is us. Everything else is our recreation."
Although Flanagan refused to share more details about what fans will see in Doctor Sleep, it seems like the trailer is enough to get everyone interested.
The synopsis for Doctor Sleep reads as follows:
"Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the 'shine.' Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality."
Doctor Sleep will premiere on November 8.
