The success of Disney's live-action adaptations of their animated classics continues, but only few has accomplished what the latest one has done. Beauty and the Beast has grossed 1 billion mark at the box office, becoming the 29th film to cross that mark. The film has only been released in the U.S. for a month but with the amount hype that contributed to the film's success, I'm not surprised that it was able to accomplish that.
The other films that crossed the 1 billion mark are:
- Avatar
- Titanic
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- Jurassic World
- The Avengers
- Furious 7
- Avengers: Age of Ultron
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2
- Frozen
- Iron Man 3
- Minions
- Captain America: Civil War
- Transformers: Dark of the Moon
- The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
- Skyfall
- Transformers: Age of Extinction
- The Dark Knight Rises
- Toy Story 3
- Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
- Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
- Jurassic Park
- Finding Dory
- Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace
- Alice in Wonderland
- Zootopia
- The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
- The Dark Knight
Disney's Beauty and the Beast is now this year's highest-grossing film (though I think The Fate of the Furious is likely to surpass it) and it's also now the highest-grossing live-action musical ever.
