Disney+ Teases Major X-Men Announcement in New Post

Marvel fans are gearing up for the long-awaited arrival of the X-Men. Sadly, there wasn't any mention at all about the beloved group of mutants at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, which led fans to believe that the X-Men announcement could either be in the D23 Expo or Disney+ Day.

Disney+ Hints at Major X-Men Announcement Ahead of Disney Plus Day

Now, in a recent post by Disney+'s official Twitter account, it seems an X-Men announcement will finally be a headliner at the event after the account posted a GIF of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine with hashtags #DisneyPlusDay and #XMen.

See the official tweet below:

Let's admit it, Disney+ got all of us there. The X-Men is one of the long-awaited projects that may be slated for Phase 5 and Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, this might also plainly be promotional content that aims to create buzz, which they triumphantly did.

When Will The X-Men Join The MCU?

Thankfully, Marvel Studios has already greenlit an X-Men project, a sequel to the beloved five-season animated series, X-Men '97. The news was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 as part of Marvel’s animation panel, set to release in Autumn 2023.

Of course, fans are still rallying for the live-action version. According to journalist Devin Faraci (via Cinema Sangha), the reason why the X-Men was non-existent at the last SDCC was due to "the contractual situation with the original Fox stuff," which suggestively implies that the X-Men wouldn't make an appearance until 2025.

"Despite the introduction of mutants at the end of Ms. Marvel, there's no mutants in Phase 5. I know why. I know why there's no mutants. I know why this is going to take a while. There might be individual mutants, there might be other characters that show a certain interest. The reason why is the contractual situation with the original Fox stuff is going to be in effect until 2025. So, if they don't want to use those actors, then they have to wait until that contract all expires."

Nonetheless, She-Hulk's Wolverine reference and Ms. Marvel's mutant origins revelation clearly hint that the MCU roadmap is already hinting at their arrival. Let's just hope for now that the X-Men will be included in Marvel Studios' panel at Disney+ Day and D23 Expo.

Disney+ day will be held on September 8 and will be streamed exclusively on the streaming service.
