Disney Still Thinking About Making National Treasure 3

It's been a while since Disney released the last National Treasure movie. National Treasure: Book of Secrets premiered way back in 2007, and while the film received mixed reviews from critics, the National Treasure sequel was a box office success. Now, more than a decade since its release, Disney has started talking about National Treasure 3 again.

Earlier this week Disney held its Annual Shareholder Meeting and during the gathering, Mickey Mouse House CEO Bob Iger decided to update shareholders about possibly producing another installment in the National Treasure franchise (via The Hollywood Reporter). Apparently, Iger is currently speaking with Bruckheimer, hoping that Disney might be able to produce another National Treasure movie.

According to Disney bigwig, Bruckheimer "would like to make a third movie, and I know that discussions about that film have gone on, probably since 2016, with our studio. But I know they have not greenlit such a film."

This is definitely interesting news for Disney fans. The first National Treasure movie was a big hit for children. Following the adventures of Nicholas Cage's Benjamin Franklin Gates, the original National Treasure took fans on a wild ride stealing the Declaration of Independence in search of a lost treasure that dated back to the founding of the United States of America.

National Treasure 2 took Gate and his father (played by Jon Voight) on an adventure to clear their ancestor's name.

Now, with renewed interest in the franchise, we can only wonder what kind of shenanigans Gate might get into. Hopefully, Disney brings back Cage to reprise his role in the film.
