Disney Rumored To Have Been Buying Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Tickets

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may have reportedly defeated Avengers: Endgame's advanced ticket sale record, but word on the street says that Disney may have bought some of those tickets to the highly-anticipated Star Wars sequel trilogy entry.

According to the channel The Quartering, there are rumors that Disney has been buying tickets to The Rise of Skywalker to help promote the movie, inflating the film's advanced ticket sales to convince casual viewers to head down to cinemas to watch the film.

This report comes after Atom Tickets went ahead to announce that Episode IX was outselling Avengers: Endgame at the advanced ticket sales market, even with Endgame being the highest-grossing movie of all time. The theater chain even went as far as claiming that Rise of Skywalker has become their best-selling movie in a span of 24 hours.

Fandango isn't that much different, reporting that The Rise of Skywalker has outsold tickets from all the previous Star Wars entries, even The Force Awakens.

If this report from The Quartering is true, then this means that a part of the tickets bought at Fandango and at Atom had actually been purchased by Disney to manufacture the "fear of missing out."

"They're buying out basically everything but the edges...every single showing has the exact same tickets missing," the channel's host suggests.

This is disappointing news. We've always expected The Rise of Skywalker to be a major hit. Not only does the film mark the end of Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy, but it also closes the curtain on the Skywalker saga. Now, it seems like part of the film's success is thanks to Disney's marketing tactics.

Let's just hope that this report isn't true.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
