It looks like Disney has decided to make way for Sony's upcoming untitled Marvel movie.
According to a report by Comic Book Review, the Walt Disney Studios has just removed a film from its 2021 release slate. This film was supposed to be in direct competition of the untitled Marvel movie that Sony announced a few weeks ago, but it seems like the Mickey Mouse House has decided to take the movie slated for October 8, 2021, out of its roster. Now, the only other movie that the House of Mouse has scheduled for October 2021 is slated for the 13. The film is set to be released under the banner of 20th Century Fox.
Disney hasn't officially admitted that Sony's upcoming Marvel release forced the company to drop its October 2021 release, but it does make sense for the House of Mouse to make way for the Marvel project. The company had some trouble coming to an agreement with Sony on how it would share the film rights to new Spider-Man movies back in 2018. If it weren't for the antics of Spider-Man star Tom Holland, the two would probably never have pushed to work on a new deal to keep Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The new deal must have affected Disney's release schedule. So when Sony decided that it would schedule a Marvel movie for October 2021, Disney naturally gave way.
Right now we can't be entirely sure what kind of Marvel movie Sony has prepared for Disney, but we're guessing it has something to do with Spidey. Let's wait and see.
