Disney's Investor Day revealed a lot of projects that the studio has in line. It also revealed the first glimpse of Disney+'s new upcoming series which stars Tom Hiddleston as the trickster demi-god and Thor's brother.
The series will be released in May 2021. Hiddleston is set to return as the mercurial Loki, who is also the Asgardian god of mischief. Like every Marvel show for Disney+, Marvel chief Kevin Feige is the executive producer for Loki. Loki's series writer is Michael Waldron and the director is Kate Herron, who is also an executive producer. Waldron was hired in February 2019 and Herron joined in August of the same year.
As mentioned, Hiddleston will reprise the role of the god of mischief in the series while he will be joined by co-stars. Sophia Di Martino joins the show's cast. It is unclear what other roles could Hiddleston's fellow castmates might play for the series. There are some speculations that Di Martino may play the female incarnation of Loki. The other series cast members are Owen Wilson, Sasha lane, Wunmi Mosaku, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Sasha Lane.
The filming of the series started in January 2020, in Atlanta, Georgia, but the production was paused in March 2020 due to COVID-19. The production continued in September 2020 and is expected to finish by December 2020.
The premise of the series is about Loki is brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority organization after he stole the Tesseract. This comes after the events that happened in the Avengers: Endgame, It seems like Loki is trapped in his own world's version of a crime thriller. Loki uses the Tesseract to travel through time and try to alter human history. The series aims to answer the questions of what happened to Loki after picking up the Tesseract and if it is possible if he can ever make a friend.
