Disney Gives Star Wars: The Last Jedi Its Own Oscar Campaign

Star Wars: The Last Jedi may have just recently made its world premiere last weekend, however, it seems like Disney has decided to update it's For Your Consideration page to include the upcoming Star Wars sequel trilogy installment.

The Force Awakens sequel might have missed out on nominations and nods from the National Board of Review and other prestigious awards ceremonies because of its December screening, but now that the film has made its global premiere, critics seem to have nothing but praise for the Star Wars movie.

Confident that the movie deserves Oscar recognition, Disney has updated its Guild Awards 2017 site to include The last Jedi, asking voters consideration for every category that the film would be eligible for, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. The studio is also campaigning for Mark Hamill as Best Actor and Daisy Ridley as Best Actress.

Of course, the studio's also asking voters to consider the film for the Academy Award's technical categories like Production Design, Visual Effects, and Cinematography – awards that usually go to big-budget blockbuster movies.

Disney giving The Last Jedi its own Oscar campaign certainly adds hype to the film, though Lord knows that there's already so much excitement building up over the Star Wars movie.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas this Friday, December 15, 2017.
