As the theatrical market is slowly recovering, things are looking bright again as we see a lot of tentpole films doing well at the box office despite the situation and it indicates that perhaps the multiple delays that most films have been experiencing this pandemic might finally be over. Unfortunately, that is not the case for the upcoming MCU films as Disney has announced the delays on the release dates of the 2022 Marvel slate as well as the fifth Indiana Jones film.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now set to be released on May 6, 2022, instead of March 25. As a result, Thor: Love of Thunder has now been pushed to July 8. The previously slotted Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now moving to fall in a November 11 release date. With that move, The Marvels is now pushed to 2023 on a February 17 date. That means Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantuamania will be moving to a summer date on July 28.

However, fortunately, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be sticking on its May 5, 2023 release date. In addition, the untitled MCU film that was scheduled on November 10, 2023 is now moving ahead to November 3. As for the fifth Indiana Jones film, it will be moving from July 29, 2022 to a year later on June 30, 2023.

According to Deadline, the changes on the release dates have nothing to do with changing the distribution strategy or concern in the global marketplace. It has something to do with giving more time to finishing the films since they're in either production or post-production.

It is disappointing to hear that the MCU films that we've been waiting for will be delayed since we're all obviously excited to see them. But we have to understand that this is for the sake of the filmmakers to give them more time to finish the films. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been changes in the way films are getting made because of the safety protocols that have to be followed which means there are longer shooting days. There's also the fact that a lot of post-production work is being done remotely so the process has been slower than usual compared to pre-pandemic times.

We may be waiting for those films longer, but there's still a lot of MCU content that is coming very soon. There's Eternals and Spider-Way: No Way Home that are set to be released before the year ends as well as Hawkeye on Disney+. There's also Ms. Marvel that will reportedly premiere in early 2022, possibly sometime before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits cinemas.
