Marvel Studios is having a little release slate shakeup beginning next year and in a stunning turn of events, the continuation of Phase Four in 2022 will no longer follow the supposed schedule. As it stands, all of the studio's offerings have been given new release dates with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness kicking things off in May. Other projects like Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Marvels, and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania have also been affected by the scheduling change.
According to a report from Variety, the latest set of delays have something to do with the production and not the box office performances of the projects. Previously slated for a March 25th premiere, it's not the first time that the Doctor Strange sequel faced a production delay. The film was originally set to get released earlier this year but the COVID-19 pandemic played a major factor in halting the film.
Following the news, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe expressed their dismay over the reported delays. Most of them are particularly devastated that the release date of the Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen team-up film has been prolonged. Check out some of the reactions here:

Personally, I'm quite relieved that Multiverse of Madness is getting pushed back to May because a March release would be crucial for Disney and Marvel. Sure, it's still one of the anticipated films in the studio's Phase Four slate but with DC's The Batman also set for a March release, Doctor Strange 2 wouldn't want to go head-to-head with the upcoming Warner Bros. offering which has been gaining a lot of buzz as of late.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently scheduled for release on May 6, 2022.
