Disney is taking a few precautions with concerns over Coronavirus by shifting Mulan's release date in international markets, as well as canceling the European opening launch event of its streaming service. However, it looks like the House of Mouse will be sticking with Black Widow's release date.
The Scarlet Johansson feature is set to hit theaters on the first day of May. According to Deadline, despite growing concerns over Coronavirus, Disney is "adamant" that they aren't moving the release date. The same goes for Universal, who will be sticking to Fast & Furious 9's release on May 22nd.
This is quite a risky plan since there's no telling what could happen in the following months with regards to the status of the Coronavirus as well as the movie industry. Marvel has a huge following overseas and the choice to stick with the original release date could potentially result in Black Widow falling shy of its predecessor.
That being said, this is just the studio's decision at this time and there is a possibility that Disney will change the release date. Whatever the situation is a few months from now, if necessary, the studio will certainly react and decide on what they think is best. For now, Black Widow will still drop on May 1st, but it wouldn't be a surprise if Disney ever changes its release date. It's a period of uncertainty so final decisions for such public events are certainly going to be risky.
