Did You See This Dragon Ball Z Nod in The Dragon Ball Super: Broly Movie Trailer?

Toei Animation

Creator Akira Toriyama is finally bringing Broly into Dragon Ball Super's canon in the upcoming film, and the first trailer for it promises epic fights, the mystery about the history of Saiyan race, and a badass powerful Saiyan villain that looks more terrifying than what fans have seen in the non-canon Dragon Ball Z films.

But there are actually a couple of shots in the trailer that reflect the iconic scenes from Dragon Ball Z, and it didn't take long for fans to catch them and point them out.

A fan who goes by Vevion on Twitter pointed out that one moment when Goku and Vegeta prepare to fight Broly for the first time by doing the same fighting stances they had when they fought each other during the Saiyan saga. Since the film plans to reveal truths about the Saiyan history, it just makes sense how the film will have references to the franchise's early moments.

Another Twitter user found a more subtle connection. One of the scenes in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly trailer shows Broly attacking Vegeta, which is a throwback to a scene from the Dragon Ball Z movie, Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan. In the trailer, Vegeta is being pushed against the ice, which is similar to how Broly pushed him against the rocks in the non-canon Dragon Ball Z film.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly is set to release in Japanese theaters this December, and it's expected to get a U.S. release in January 2019.
