Did Richard E Grant Confirm Matt Smith IS In Star Wars: Episode IX?

People are undoubtedly disappointed after Matt Smith declared that he isn't in Star Wars: Episode IX. However, it looks like Smith's former Doctor Who co-star Richard E. Grant had already confirmed that the Morbius actor is indeed part of the cast.

Smith recently told LATimes that he isn't in Episode IX. "As far as I can tell, I'm definitely not," the star of The Crown reportedly said. Needless to say, fans aren't buying it and one Twitter user even pointed out that Grant had already confirmed Smith's casting in a previous interview. Take a look at the tweet below.

In the Radio Times interview, Grant addressed the possibility that he and Smith would be reunited in a scene. "I would be fired if I told you anything about that," the Episode IX actor had said.

To be fair, Grant didn't confirm or deny if he had any scenes with Smith. However, it's still curious that the Logan star would claim that he could get fired for talking about an actor who isn't even in the film in the first place.

For now, we'll have to take Smith's word for it. Nevertheless, fans are still hoping that the Patient Zero star was lying about his involvement to avoid any spoiler-y Episode IX questions.

There are speculations that Smith's character in Episode IX could be someone truly important in the storyline. In addition to that, many believe that any details about the role could potentially reveal the sequel's storyline. Some are guessing that Smith could be playing a young Palpatine or a member of the Knights of Ren. Who knows, he might even be playing a young Thrawn. However, it's all just theories so it's best to take it with a grain of salt.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20.
