It looks like Devs might not be as complicated as we first thought it would be. The sci-fi series by Alex Garland was initially believed to have a major mystery to deal with but it doesn't take long before viewers figure things out. By then, we're left questioning the true motives of the characters themselves. Luckily, actors Sonoya Mizuno and Jin Ha have shared some interesting details about Lily and Jamie and what it truly happening in the show.
Mizuno spoke to io9 about her character and immediately stated that Lily isn't really reacting the way someone should in her situation.
"She is thrust into this awfully horrible situation where her boyfriend dies," Mizuno says before teasing that Lily's actions are important in pushing the story forward. "She's quite an unusual character and the ways in which she reacts to his death and what she does kind of is what propels this story forward," she adds.
But could it have something to do with Lily's relationship with Jamie? Ha confirms that the two are already exes who haven't spoken to each other in two years. This in itself puts a strain on their effort to find out what happened to Lily's boyfriend.
"That is the place, the emotional and psychological place from which our relationship begins and the TV show. So for me, that was thrilling, terrifying to try to, without any scenes of our prior relationship, to have that present in every scene that we do and that we do shoot for the show," Ha said.
At this point, there are only two episodes of Devs that have been released on Hulu. However, there is little doubt that we'll get to figure out whether Lily and Jamie can solve the mystery without getting into major trouble.
The first two episodes of Devs is currently streaming on Hulu.
