Dev Patel Refuses to Do Big Budget Films Because of The Last Airbender

There is little doubt that Dev Patel could choose any project he wants. After all, the Lion star has already proven he could handle any role imaginable. However, there's one kind of film that Patel will never work on again. The star of The Green Knight somehow admitted that he refuses to work on big-budget movies again after what happened in The Last Airbender.

Patel has had his share of huge blockbusters like Slumdog Millionaire and Chappie. However, he seems more inclined to work on indie films. Interestingly, there's a good reason for that, as Patel suggested to New York Times that The Last Airbender was the worst movie he has ever worked on.

"I shouldn't even bring it up but do a quick IMDb search and you'll know what it is. I didn't really flourish in that position," Patel said.

It's easy to understand why Patel isn't proud of The Last Airbender. Although the project initially sounded promising with M. Night Shyamalan at the helm, many thought that casting Patel as Prince Zuko was a poor choice. Interestingly, the former Skins star himself agrees.

It's unlikely that Patel will work on a big-budget film like, say, a superhero movie. Still, he admits he has great respect for people who do.

"I take my hat off to all those incredible actors that do Marvel movies where it's, like, big, noisy fans and green screen and tennis balls and whatnot," Patel said.

Although Patel has expressed his refusal to work on another big-budget project, it looks like he actually tried out for a hugely popular franchise a few years ago. It was previously reported that Patel had auditioned for the Star Wars sequel trilogy films.

Interestingly, he didn't reveal which Star Wars role it was that he auditioned for. However, it is believed that Patel tested for the role of Finn, which would eventually go to John Boyega. There are also speculations that he almost portrayed Poe Dameron, but the role eventually landed on Oscar Isaac.

You can catch Patel in his latest role as the Arthurian knight Sir Gawain in The Green Knight, which is now screening in theaters worldwide.
