There is little doubt that Dev Patel is a talented actor who could take on any role. But could you imagine the Lion star playing Finn or Poe Dameron? Patel has just confirmed that he auditioned for a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens but it didn't turn out too well.
Patel is best known for his breakthrough role in Slumdog Millionaire and it was a performance that truly opened doors for the actor. So it's no surprise that the Hotel Mumbai star was one of the many actors considered for an important role in the Star Wars sequels.
"I don't know if you're allowed to talk about it, because you sign an NDA. But yeah, I think everyone did. Everyone auditioned for Star Wars," Patel told Total Film. "I remember, I think I was doing Marigold 2, and I sent them an iPhone video from my trailer in India. The next minute, I got a call-back, and I was there, and that was fascinating."
Interestingly, he didn't reveal which role it was that he auditioned for. However, fans believe that Patel tested for the role of Finn, which would eventually go to John Boyega. There are also speculations that he almost portrayed Poe, but the role eventually landed on Oscar Isaac.
Although it didn't work out, we are still loving the idea of Patel joining the Star Wars Universe. For now, it's unclear if he could eventually audition for another role. Nevertheless, we're hoping that we'll get to see Patel in a Star Wars project.
Patel's new movie The Green Knight is scheduled for release on July 30, 2021.
