Detective Pikachu Fans Hate the German Trailer for Ruining a Pokemon Tradition

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu has been a pleasant surprise thus far, with a fairly decent trailer that had some good-looking Pokemon and one funny scene. Fans were also fairly happy to hear Ikue Otani's Pikachu voice since only Justice Smith's Tim can hear the adorable little furball. You hear it when Tim asks a woman if she can understand the Pokemon and she only hears the cute "Pika Pika" that the monster is known for.

However, a German version of the trailer had Otani's voice replaced by another voice actor's, which was a bit annoying. While there isn't anything wrong with having dubbed voices, it's odd having Otani's removed since she only really says "Pikachu." The actress has been doing this for years so seeing her get replaced was a cause of annoyance for some.

It seems like this mistake has been rectified, as a new and updated trailer keeps Otani's voice while everyone else is dubbed. Interestingly enough, the trailer that replaced her is still up and about, so if you want to be annoyed go and check it out. At least they made an effort to please the fans.

Newer fans might not know this but the original 4Kids dub of the Pokemon anime did try replacing Otani's voice for a while. This didn't jive well with fans and Otani's voice was soon kept. This was a wise choice since most of us can agree that it is just so iconic.

Detective Pikachu comes out on May 11, 2019.
