Despite SW Celebration Cancellation, More Star Wars Announcements Could Come to D23 2021

A lot of people were bummed when it was announced that Star Wars Celebration was getting cancelled this year, and what's more, SWC won't be coming back until 2022. While the event won't be taking place in 2021, it looks like the SW announcements can move to another convention instead.

As suggested by ABC's Clayton Sandell, Lucasfilm could be moving their Star Wars announcements to D23 in 2021 in lieu of a full Star Wars Celebration. Here's the tweet:

While this isn't actual confirmation, it would make sense that all those big announcements would be moved to a Disney event. With all the big brands under the Disney banner, I wouldn't doubt that the Mouse House would actually just use its control over Star Wars and Marvel to grow D23 into the biggest convention of the year.

Of course, this is just speculation on my part. Don't get any ideas, Disney!

For now, fans are urged to refund their tickets for Star Wars Celebration 2020. If not, they can opt to move their tickets to the next SWC which is set to take place in 2022. Fans will have to keep vigilant though, because refunding period is only allowed between June 22 and August 26, 2020.

In the meantime, it doesn't seem like Disney is going to hold a D23 Expo this year, seeing as they always skip a year in-between. No date has also been set for D23 2021, but it's possible that it would be taking place later in the year, maybe sometime between August and November.
