Despite Numerous Protests, Disney and Marvel Won't Rehire James Gunn

Even with the support of fans, celebrities, and the Guardians of the Galaxy cast, Disney and Marvel will not be rehiring James Gunn. The director was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after members of the alt-right unearthed some offensive tweets Gunn made a decade ago. This has resulted in a huge backlash, with many hoping that Disney and Marvel would rehire Gunn but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Variety reports that Disney and Marvel are standing firm with their decision. As if that wasn't shocking enough, Kevin Feige supposedly supports this move, even though previous reports claimed that he lobbied for Gunn and fought hard to keep him.

Gunn reportedly met with studio chairman Alan Horn, though it was only a courtesy meeting to "clear the air." Variety says that the meeting itself was civil and professional but Horn stands by the company's decision to let Gunn go, which is pretty disappointing to hear.

Now that this decision has been made, it looks like Disney and Marvel will now search for a new director to film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Whether they keep Gunn's script or not is not yet known, though Drax the Destroyer actor Dave Bautista threatened to quit if they didn't.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is reportedly aiming for a 2020 release.
