It's no secret that Tanjiro Kamado has a tendency to headbutt people (and demons) and it's a move that is quite effective on just about everyone. But how did the young swordsman actually learn the move? Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 has just confirmed that Tanjiro got the killer moves not from his father, but from his mother!
In Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 17, Tanjiro found himself face to face with Gyutaro as his other companions were either unconscious or stuck in the rubble of a destroyed building (or in Nezuko's cast, sound asleep). The demon then proceeded to torment the young swordsman, breaking his fingers and telling him he is too weak to protect his demon sister.
At this point, Tanjiro runs away from Gyutaro who immediately catches up with him. Although it looked like an act of cowardice, Tanjiro was actually buying time until he regains his strength and instantly attacks the demon with his trademark move, the headbutt.
But how did Tanjiro get such a hard head that has been effective in taking down the likes of Inosuke, Sanemi, and now Gyutaro? In the post-credits scene, Nezuko reveals that her brother actually got his hard head from their mother Kie Kamado. She then shares an awesome story about how Tanjiro may have learned the effectiveness of a headbutt.
According to Nezuko, their mother once subdued a wild boar (played by none other than Inosuke) with a headbutt. In the skit, both Nezuko and Tanjiro are still children and the little boy is shown watching the action in amazement. We wouldn't be surprised if this is how he realized that the headbutt is the best move for him.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 Episode 18 is titled No Matter How Many Lives ("Nando Umarekawatte mo"), a reference to Chapters 96 and 97 in the manga. The final episode of Yukaku-hen will air on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at 11:15 PM JST.
