Demon Slayer Season 2 Offers Refreshing New Look at Kagaya Ubuyashiki

Fans of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba will agree that Kagaya Ubuyashiki is one of the most loved characters despite his strange appearance. After all, the 97th leader of the Demon Slayer Corps is known for his calm demeanor and fair judgement. Interestingly, there was a time when Oyakata-sama was not covered in a curse mark and could actually see his warriors. The latest episode of Season 2 just gave us a brief glimpse at the young Kagaya!

In Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 15, Tengen Uzui was slowly getting irritated by Gyutaro's comments on his looks, luck, and fighting prowess. The Sound Hashira berates the demon and his sister for not being aware of other fighters who are far better than himself. When Gyutaro points out that he thinks Uzui is unique for resisting the poison from his blood sickles, the Hashira reveals he was a shinobi who decided to turn his back against his clan and join the Demon Slayer Corps.

It is here that Uzui recalls his first meeting with Kagaya Ubuyashiki who warns him that it will be difficult to turn against his own values as he fights for the Corps. Nevertheless, Kagaya welcomes Uzui and his wives, thanking them for putting their lives at risk for other people.

There is only a brief moment where we see the younger Kagaya Ubuyashiki but it is refreshing to see that Oyakata-sama only had a small mark on his face. In addition to that, his eyes are not yet affected by the curse mark so he could still see. It's an awesome flashback at a time when Kagaya was stronger and healthier.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 Episode 16 is titled Defeating an Upper Rank Demon ("Jogen no Oni o Taoshitara") and takes inspiration from the manga's 88th chapter How to Defeat Them ("Taoshikata"). Yukaku-hen Episode 9 will air on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at 11:15 PM JST.
