Demon Slayer Movie Mugen Train Breaks New Anime Record with its TV Debut

Demon Slayer has been slaying records since the manga's release in 2016. This feat has been true with everything in the franchise which includes the anime series, light novels, video games, and the widely popular film. So it's no surprise that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie - Mugen Train has broken another record when it made its TV debut this month.

Mugen Train was released in Japanese theaters in June last year and it immediately started annihilating almost every film record in its path. Now that the Demon Slayer movie has owned major records with its worldwide theatrical release, Mugen Train proved it hasn't lost its touch when it made its TV premiere.

The film was the epic finale of the Demon Slayer anime marathon on Fuji TV that spanned several days in September. When Mugen Train finally aired on September 25, it was watched by nearly 11 million households and scored an audience rating of 21.4% in total. The stunning numbers, confirmed by Clover Blossoms Video Research, officially makes the Demon Slayer movie the biggest anime broadcast of the entire 21st century.

That is not a small feat but it's no surprise considering Demon Slayer's popularity. With Demon Slayer Season 2 on the way, the franchise is set to slay more records later this year.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 will debut with the Mugen Train arc on October 10, 2021. The highly anticipated Entertainment District arc, which follows the young Demon Slayers on a mission with Sound Hashina Tengen Uzui, will premiere on December 5, 2021.
