While Netflix is adding more anime titles in various regions, a new report revealed that Death Note, Berserk: The Golden Age Arc, and other anime are leaving Netflix US this October.
Specifically, What’s on Netflix reported that these anime are set to leave Netflix in the US on October 15, 2022, based on posted removal dates.
What’s interesting is that Death Note is part of the recent Netflix and Nippon TV deal which brought 13 titles to the platform in over 100 countries globally.
Given this, it’s likely that the recent Nippon TV deal did not include the US.
After all, anime licensing is a complicated matter, with licenses being held by different companies or organizations depending on the country or region.
The removal of titles is a fairly common occurrence for movies and shows that are not exclusive to Netflix.
Only titles with a clearly marked Netflix “N” logo are confirmed to be permanent additions to the platform as these are either exclusively distributed or produced by Netflix itself.
Arguably, the biggest title that’s leaving Netflix is Death Note. While the series is more than a decade old, it is one of the most popular anime from the mid-2000s as it aired from October 2006 to June 2007.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Death Note is an anime series by Madhouse that’s based on the manga of the same name that’s written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata.
The manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from December 2003 to May 2006.
Alongside Death Note, the three Berserk: The Golden Age Arc films are also set to leave Netflix.
This trilogy of 3DCG anime movies were released between 2012 and 2013, and they are adaptations of Kentaro Miura’s Berserk manga, specifically the Golden Age arc.
The other titles that will be removed on October 15 include Bleach: Fade to Black, Bleach: Hell Verse, and Vampire Knight Season 1.
The report also mentioned that Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma will also be removed from Netflix in the US, but it will leave the platform a bit earlier with its October 1 removal date.
While these anime are not going to be available on Netflix US next month, some of the shows may be available in other Netflix regions.
