Deadpool Writers Leave 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Reboot

All hands on deck! It looks like the reboot for Pirates of the Caribbean is in for a bumpy ride as the project has just lost its writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, a duo many recognize for their work in Deadpool. No replacements have been named just yet but it's clear that the reboot is floating in dangerous waters right now.

Reese and Wernick were originally brought in to give the franchise a new sense of direction after the fifth Pirates movie ended up disappointing in the box office. Deadline didn't give a reason for the duo's abrupt exit but it's clear that Disney is in a bit of trouble if they want to give this franchise a second chance.

There are conflicting sources claiming that Disney is either looking for new writers or are trying to make this film franchise into a television series. The latter is risky given the budget one would expect from a show about Pirates, plus it doesn't have the same name value as a Marvel or Star Wars property, which is pretty sad.

Many fans have felt that this franchise was in trouble for a very long time and the reboot isn't helping matters. Losing Johnny Depp was seen as both a blessing and a curse since the production crew gets to save money but they do so at the expense of losing the series' most iconic character.

No release date for the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot has been given. Don't expect one anytime soon.
