Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Returns to Marvel, Working on X-Men Crossover for 2019

Whether you love his art or hate it with passion, you have to admit that Rob Liefeld was/is a trailblazer in the comic book industry. Penning million dollar-selling comics like X-Force, the comic book creator is one of the most well-known names in the industry thanks to creations like Deadpool, Cable, and Domino. The artist hasn't worked on a Marvel comic in years, but that all looks to be changing in 2019.

During Wizard World Comic-Con (Via MovieWeb), Liefeld revealed that he is working on an upcoming X-Men crossover that will be coming out in 2019. He didn't say if he would write or draw the event, but since the creator has dabbled in both fields, there's a good chance that he could do both. Then again, writing has never been his strong suit so he might want to settle for drawing.

"I have a new project, 2019, it's a huge X-Men crossover...It's awesome...Marvel called me up last Thanksgiving and said, 'We want you to do a big story.' I said well, let's see if they'll go for this, and I tried to do something no one has done before. So I gave them this pretty aggressive proposal for an event and I can't say what it is, I can't say what it involves, got a lot of new stuff."

Liefeld isn't the only classic X-Men creator who has a stint with Marvel. Chris Claremont has been penning a number of new stories for the company, including the upcoming X-Men Black: Magneto one-shot, which a lot of people are looking forward to. John Byrne has also revealed that he is in talks with Marvel about a possible return.

Marvel already announced a new X-Force book written by Extermination writer Ed Brisson, which features a number of the characters Liefeld has created. The publisher is also relaunching Uncanny X-Men this November, so what this special event will be about is going to boggle the mind.

Liefeld also has more work lined up with his most popular creation Deadpool. He is currently working on Deadpool: Badder Blood, the sequel to his original graphic novel Deadpool: Bad Blood. It will feature a three-way team-up between Deadpool, Wolverine, and Cable, as well as other X-Men or X-Force characters. The graphic novel will also feature the debut of Shatterstorm, who looks a lot like Shatterstar.
