X-Men: Dark Phoenix was supposed to come out this November, but seeing that the studio has opted for some extensive reshoots, we'll be getting the movie sometime next year. As production continues, a new set photo finds Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Professor X (James McAvoy) in a very familiar setting.
Check it out:
Ever since the first X-Men, the relationship of Charles and Eric have somehow been defined by how they like to play chess against each other. Though we know that they champion opposing viewpoints, the fact that they can still play a friendly game further implies the complexity of their relationship.
Age of Apocalypse didn't really see the two parting as enemies, but I think this scene has Charles trying to recruit Eric for something. I'll admit, at this point in the timeline, both of them should be looking like Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, but there's just too many things muddled up about the X-Men that I just wish that they end it with this movie. After all, the Disney/Fox merger is set to finalize next year, and I would prefer it if Marvel Studios was just given the opportunity to revamp the X-Men and Fantastic Four completely.
As for Deadpool though, I think they've distanced themselves from the main X-franchise enough that it could be said that the movies have been taking place in the MCU this whole time. I mean, revamp everything, but keep Ryan Reynolds' as Deadpool. He's worked too hard to get the movies done, and he plays the character perfectly.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters Feb. 14, 2019.
