Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy opened up about the one major restriction that Marvel Studios had during the making of the film.
The upcoming movie is breaking new ground for the MCU since it is the first R-rated project in the franchise, following in the footsteps of the previous two films that were made under 20th Century Fox.
We've seen in the trailers that the film is not holding back in exploring the R-rated territory as it still has risque jokes and violent action scenes that we're expecting, but as it turns out, there is one element that they have off-limits to.
Deadpool and Wolverine Has Restriction on Overt Drug Use
In a recent interview, Levy revealed that overt drug use was the one major restriction that Marvel Studios had during the development of Deadpool and Wolverine.
"I’m so wary of what I can say but certainly there were early conversations about overt drug use," he said.
Fortunately, they found a way to play around the restriction as they ended up inserting a joke about it on the script.
Levy added, "And we thought that was an interesting conversation. Let’s actually write a dialogue scene about having had it."
We've seen glimpses of the joke in the first trailer when Deadpool and Blind Al were talking about the drug-related terms that were off-limits by Kevin Feige.
It's not surprising to hear that the film still had restrictions despite being allowed to explore the R-rated territory since the project is now made under the Disney umbrella, which is known for usually catering to a family-friendly audience.
However, fans should still expect the same violent and obscene tone that we expect in a Deadpool movie as the trailers have made it clear that the film is taking advantage of the R-rated territory and is willing to poke fun at everything including the MCU.
It will be interesting to see how it all plays out when we see the entire film next month, but fans shouldn't worry too much about the restrictions in its R-rated tone.
Deadpool and Wolverine is set to arrive in theaters this July 26.
