Deadpool and Wolverine had featured all kinds of variants for both Wolverine and Deadpool like ‘comic-accurate Wolverine’ and Dogpool; but for all the variants that did appear in the film, there were loads more of others that were left on the cutting room floor.

Concept art for the movie has been slowly trickling out on the internet, and artist David Masson shares this one Deadpool variant that didn’t manage to make it to the film.

Deadpool and Wolverine: Concept Art for Wolverinepool Variant

On Masson’s IG account, he shares a look at art for Wolverinepool (or Deadverine/Wolverpool) from costume designer @mayesrubeo. Check this out:

No reason has been given as to why the costume didn’t make it to the film, but it’s likely that the audience had already gotten a look at Deadpool wielding the Wolverine claws in his fight with the TVA in the beginning of the film, and having a Wolverinepool variant could have been visually redundant.

Though it does seem like this concept was just made up for the film, there is actually a Wolverinepool variant that’s a member of the Deadpool Corps. In the comics:

Other Deadpools and Wolverines that Didn’t Make the Cut

When it came to coming up with the variants that would show up in the movie, director Shawn Levy had shared that he had the entire Marvel Visual Development just pitch ideas for who should show up in the film.

Taking to Happy Sad Confused, Levy shared, “As we were developing that sequence, we invited everybody to pitch ideas, so that meant the Marvel Visual Development Department, that meant the storyboard artists, costume designers—and so we got this grab bag of suggestions and ended up choosing the John Burn kind of old school Wolvies in there too.

“We got this grab bag of Wolverine variants that felt so satisfying and really was a brainchild of a big group collaboration and that is the fun—to me—of making movies.”

One Wolverine variant that didn’t manage to get into the film was an actual wolverine that was supposed to maul Deadpool, but the VFX just wasn’t ready for the movie so they scrapped the concept.

Some concept art had also revealed a Dinopool, plus cameos for heroes like Ben Affleck’s Daredevil and Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider.

The Future of Deadpool and Wolverine?

For now, it just seems like Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman want to rest on their laurels. After all Deadpool and Wolverine did just become the highest-grossing R-rated movie, having grossed a $1 billion worldwide.

No plans have been announced for Wade and Logan’s next adventure, but fans are almost sure that they’ll be sticking around to have main roles in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars which is expected to be an even larger cameofest than Deadpool and Wolverine.

Hopefully after that, fans are hoping that Marvel will do a ground-up reboot of the X-Men and introduce some new faces for Charles Xavier and his School for Gifted Youngsters.

Deadpool and Wolverine is now showing in theaters.
