Deadpool 3 Production Reveals Major Ryan Reynolds Restriction

Excitement is off the charts for Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3 as the Merc with a Mouth is finally making his much-awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. The project just kickstarted its production this week and by the looks of it, everything is going pretty smoothly.

However, a new report claims that lead star Ryan Reynolds will have restrictions thanks to the ongoing WGA strike that has been a pain in the you-know-where for several ongoing productions.

The WGA Strike Will Prevent Ryan Reynolds from Improvising His Lines in Deadpool 3

According to a report from Collider, Reynolds' contract with Marvel Studios will restrict him from doing any adlib work for Deadpool 3. As it stands, the actor will only be able to follow the film's current script, unless the WGA strike ends and they choose to do reshoots.

The problem is, we have no idea when the strike which began on May 2nd will actually conclude and there's a good chance Reynolds will have to stick with the script he's been given.

Reynolds is known for improvising his lines and even admitted to doing it during a 2021 interview with Elle Singapore to promote the Netflix heist action-comedy Red Notice, saying: "I improvised a lot of the jokes. I mean, that’s kind of my job. I think it’s a little bit of a stretch to say it’s improv because I write a lot of the jokes. I write eight or nine options for each joke and I leave it to the editor and the director just to decide which ones they feel are suitable for the movie."

Now, it'll be interesting to see if Reynolds' inability to change his lines on the fly will affect the film but we'd like to assume that it won't, especially considering Marvel Studios has allowed the film to go the R-rated route. This of course means they can do anything they want without having to worry about Disney's family-friendly code.

Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3 is currently slated for a theatrical release on November 8, 2024.
