Deadpool 2 Writers Discuss One Morbid Montage That Was Cut From Release

Deadpool 2 is now showing and pretty much everyone seems to agree that it's better than the first film. The stakes are higher, the budget is bigger, and the story is much more interesting, even if there are a few moments that fall flat. Still being rated R, the film wasn't afraid to shy away from some fairly gory moments though there was a dark montage cut from the theatrical release.

Beware. Spoilers Ahead.

During an AMA session with Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, it was revealed that a suicide montage of the character was cut from the final product. After the death of his wife Vanessa early on in the film, Deadpool would have tried to kill himself in a multitude of ways. In the final cut, we only see Wade Wilson kill himself once.

We are Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, co-writers (and the real heroes, at least to our mothers) of Deadpool and Deadpool 2. AMA!

According to the two writers, we would have seen Wade drink Drano and jump into a polar bear enclosure, among other things. Going with the one we see in the film was probably the right decision since it makes his first meeting with Vanessa in the afterlife more impactful.

Suicide is also a fairly sensitive topic these days and if it were overdone, the film might have caught some flack. There are people who are already upset with the way 13 Reason Why handled suicide (and the fact that it's getting a sequel), so cutting it from the theatrical release was smart.

Fans interested in the scene will be happy to know that it will appear in the film's Blu-Ray and DVD.

Deadpool 2 is now showing in theaters.
