Zazie Beetz is certainly on a roll. The Deadpool 2 actress is set to join Joaquin Phoenix in the highly anticipated Joker film.
There have been speculations about Beetz's possible involvement in the Todd Phillips movie although it was not immediately confirmed. However, That Hashtag Show has announced that the Atlanta star has already been cast as the Joker's love interest Sophie Dumond.
Although not much is known about Sophie Dumond's role in the Joker film, the casting call for Beetz's new character suggests that she will be the main female lead.
"Supporting female (27-34) to play African American or to play Latina. Not beautiful, has a hardness to her, a single mother living on the Lower East Side, doing the best she can, trying to make ends meet; worn out by the grind of the city. She understands how the system is stacked against her and the people in her community, how unjust it all is for them. She's just trying to catch a break."
Beetz is only the third actor confirmed for the Joker origin film. Phoenix was the first to be cast as the Clown Prince of Crime while GLOW star Marc Maron has been added in an undisclosed role. There have also been speculations that Robert De Niro will be part of the cast however his involvement has yet to be confirmed.
It's set to be a busy year for Beetz. The German-born actress is expected to reprise her role as Domino in X-Force. She could also set to return in the third season of Atlanta next year.
The Joker film will begin production later this year. The movie is expected to hit theaters in October 2019.
