Deadpool 2 Might Have Had More Mutants If It Had A Bigger Budget

Deadpool 2 might already have quite a number of mutants for its X-Force, but the film was actually supposed to have more mutants romping around the raunchy R-Rated Deadpool sequel.

After the unprecedent success of the original $58 million budget Deadpool, many were expecting Deadpool 2 to get a blank check to play around with. However, the production's ambitions were cut short.

Speaking in an interview with Screen Rant, Deadpool 2 co-writer Rhett Rheese reveals another mutant who would have been in the film had the budget allowed for another character.

"Mr. X was one, a villain. Black Tom was much expanded in an earlier draft. I think those were the only two that I think played a prominent role. Sluggo had a bigger role. Sluggo's in the movie, in the prison. He was in a bigger role in the prison in earlier drafts where there was more mayhem. There were versions early on where in the prison, when Cable broke in, all the mutant collars failed and so all of a sudden all the mutants had their abilities and it was just this mayhem of every mutant fighting every other mutant with every ability possible, but budget - budget kind of brought us back down to earth there and we did it a little more traditionally. The collars stayed on, but those are probably the only ones that had a bigger role that that dropped out."

For those who aren't familiar with the characters, Black Tom Cassidy is Banshee's cousin. Earlier reports on Deadpool 2 suggested the character had a more significant role n the film, just like what Rheese said in the interview. Strongman Sluggo was also supposed to have more screentime, but his appearance simply became a quick cameo in the film. Meanwhile, Mr. X was cut off from Deadpool 2 entirely. The mutant is a character obsessed with death, and because of his bloodthirsty personality, Deadpool 2 might have actually been a good home for Mr. X. Maybe next time, in Deadpool 3.

Deadpool 2 premieres tomorrow, May 18.
