Cable's Techno-Organic Virus Could be Explored in Deadpool 3

[THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR DEADPOOL 2]

Though Cable is a main part of Deadpool 2, we don't really get to know his full backstory after the credits roll. Sure we know he's a man on a mission, but how did he even get his ass-kicking skills in the first place?

Talking to ScreenRant, Deadpool 2 co-writer Rhett Reese explains that they want to explore more of Cable's backstory in future films. Reese says:

"Cable has such a complex back story. We certainly want to explore the virus that's killing him. There was a little bit of that in this script and it didn't quite make it into the cut, but this idea that he is sort of slowly becoming more machine than man, I think is definitely something we want to explore."

With Cable literally stuck in the present, Reese also says that he wants to explore the character being a ‘man out of time' just like Captain America:

"We also want to explore a little bit of him being a man out of time because now he really is, the way we've set it up (in Deadpool 2), trapped, in theory, in this previous time and he's committed to trying to make the world a better place... We definitely want to explore that too, and then I think largely we just always want to use Cable as a foil for Deadpool. He's such a man on a mission who doesn't want to be distracted by irreverence, and silliness, and craziness, and that's the perfect foil for Deadpool..."

With Brolin blowing everyone away with his portrayal of Thanos, I think it's safe to say that he pulled off Cable as well. The guy is an absolute moral rock when he meets DP for the first time, but by the end of the film, you're convinced that the two can actually work together.

Surely we should expect more of Brolin in this established Deadpool universe down the line. Meet his Cable when Deadpool 2 hits theaters May 18.
