DC Studios Boss Teases Chapter One Slate Is Bigger Than You Think

DC Studios’ new co-CEO James Gunn has kickstarted the year by unveiling the new DCU Chapter One: Gods & Monsters era, and as the new DCU is soon coming to fruition, Gunn reveals that DC Chapter One is bigger than you think.

Recently, while promoting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on Twitter with the new main villain, the High Evolutionary, played by Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji, a DC fan brought up a question in the comments asking how much of the Chapter One slate has been told to the public, and to that, Gunn said: “Less than half.”

Currently, the Chapter One slate includes five movies and five TV shows that begin showing on the big screen and HBO Max by 2025, with the return of classic heroes such as Superman and Wonder Woman, all the while introducing new ones like Creature Commandos and Swamp Thing.

It is only natural for Gunn to not reveal the entire new DCU slate, given that a lot could change over the years, which could lead to potential delays and destruction of the reconstructed DCU. Gunn is definitely taking good notes from what the MCU is currently facing, what with the long list of promised films and series supposedly releasing this year have now been moved to a later date.

Even Mark Ruffalo, who plays the MCU’s Hulk, seems to think so: “I would say, hire James Gunn, ‘cause nobody does it better. And Marvel should be sweating, because James Gunn is a really gifted filmmaker and I think he’s going to be amazing for that franchise.” After all, a good player shouldn’t reveal all his cards in one go.

Now, it remains a mystery as to what else Gunn has up his sleeves to include on this renewal of the DCU, however, with DC fans found satisfied and highly anticipating what’s to come in rebuilding the DC, it’s safe to assume that Gunn has it all under control.

The new DCU slate begins with Superman: Legacy is currently slated for release on July 11, 2025.
