DC Storyboard Artist Blames Justice League Failings on Marvel and Social Media

DC fans might have expected out of the DC Extended Universe's Justice League movie, however, the comic book movie ended up being a commercial and critical flop.

While there are many reasons why Justice League turned out the way it did, the movie's storyboard artist Jay Oliva believes that the film's failings had everything to do with Marvel and with social media. Taking to Twitter earlier this week, the artist who also happens to be a director of several DC animated films, reveals the roles that social media and Marvel play in the development of Justice League.

According to the filmmaker, Warner Brother's executives are always on social media, and because of this, the studio was influenced by what fans would say about the series. There were multiple complaints about the film being too dark and the film needing more levity like Marvel, but according to Oliva, WB should just keep away from social media and let DC be separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"In fact, this whole mess is BECAUSE of execs reading social media and believing it to be the gospel truth. The whole 'it's too dark, needs more jokes, it's colorless, it should be more like Marvel, etc' you can trace back to the bandwagon of social media. So yah I think it works," Oliva wrote in his post on Twitter.

In a way, this is true. Warner Brothers has been keeping up with the fanbase's reviews of the DC Extended Universe, and it has influenced the way the studio develops its projects. One of the main issues with WB is that it always interferes with its film productions, damaging the movie before it premieres.
