The Batman’s Robert Pattinson Thinks Actors Only Go Method if They're Playing 'A**holes'

Jared Leto infamously went "method" when he played Joker in The Suicide Squad, meaning that he was in-character even when the camera wasn't on him. A lot of people thought he was a bit over the top when it came to his dedication, and it looks like the next Batman Robert Pattinson is not a fan of this acting practice either.

Talking to Jennifer Lopez for Variety's Actors on Actors, Pattinson talks about how weirded out he is by ‘bringing the part home.' He says, "I always say about people who do method acting, you only ever see people do the method when they're playing an a–hole... You never see someone being lovely to everyone and going, ‘I'm really deep in character.'"

It's fun that Pattinson would say this about method acting because a lot of method actors have come to work on Batman before. Christian Bale was considered to be a method actor alongside co-stars Heath Ledger and Gary Oldman. Even Joker had Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro. Too bad for Leto though, because everyone loved those actors' performances except for him.

If you ask me, Leto's Joker could have been his own kind of iconic, but the character was kind of butchered in the cutting room after WB decided to make the movie a lot more ‘colorful.' It was said that the original cut of the movie would have emphasized on the abusive relationship between Harley and the Joker, and maybe that's where all the "good stuff" is.

Or not. I'm just speculating on my part, to be honest.

For now, catch Pattinson's debut as the Dark Knight when The Batman comes out June 25, 2021.
