The “evil Superman” variant known as Ultraman will reportedly appear in the upcoming Superman: Legacy film by James Gunn, with new Superman actor David Corenswet playing both roles. This was confirmed by a well-known DC insider, DanielRPK, on X.
Rumours have swirled on the Internet regarding the inclusion of a second Superman in James Gunn’s reboot film Superman: Legacy, which comes out in July 2025 and stars David Corenswet in the lead role. This variant is reportedly Ultraman, which, in the comics, is a version of Superman that comes from a different universe.
However, the rumours indicate that this version of Ultraman is instead a clone created by Lex Luthor, whom Gunn’s movie portrays as a scientist rather than an industry mogul in previous films, rather than a multiversal variant.
The reports say this second Superman will be a combination of Bizarro and Ultraman. Bizarro is a Superman clone described as child-like with white skin. He appeared in a comic book from the Silver Age era, where he was a creation of Lex Luthor.
Today, DanielRPK gave semi-official confirmation of these rumours through Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter). The insider said that the Ultraman in Superman: Legacy is a clone, which puts to rest any speculation that Gunn is playing with a DC version of the Multiverse.
Arriving in theatres on July 11, 2025, Superman: Legacy is James Gunn’s first feature film after taking over the DC film universe under the DC Studios flag. It will be a starting point for “Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters” within that cinematic universe.
The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer, the leader of The Authority. James Gunn revealed that a standalone film for The Authority is being written.
