DC diehards were more than thrilled when Shazam! director David F. Sandberg took to social media earlier today to give fans their first taste of the Shazam family's upgraded suits for Fury of the Gods. However, the excitement fans felt quickly turned into bewilderment when they saw Grace Fulton donning the Marvel Marvel costume. Sandberg would later confirm that Fulton will now be portraying two roles in the sequel as both Mary Bromfield and Mary Marvel, officially replacing Michelle Borth.

This stunning new development took a lot of people by surprise as they were expecting Borth to be part of the project. Previous reports even claimed that Borth signed a multi-picture deal with Warner Bros. and DC Films to appear in other DC Extended Universe projects but apparently, that's not the case. The actress has yet to release an official statement regarding the casting change.

Taking to Twitter, fans can't help but feel bad for the 42-year-old actress and aired their disappointment over her unceremonious ousting from Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Check out some of the reactions below:

Sandberg has also yet to address Borth's exit but the general belief within the fandom right now is that the actress was removed from the sequel due to her age. And with Grace Fulton already approaching her mid-20s, it does make a lot of sense for her to take on the Mary Marvel role but man, I really feel bad for Michelle. Hopefully, DC has something else planned for the actress.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit cinemas in June 2023.
