DC Comics Pulls Max Landis Superman Story After Sexual Harassment Claims

With Max Landis being the latest Hollywood personality accused of sexual harassment, the people at DC Comics may have shown some foresight by removing his story from the DC Universe Holiday Special2017 one-shot. His story featured Superman and was drawn by acclaimed Flash artist Francis Manapul but has since been replaced by a reprint of The Silent Night of the Batman by Mike Friedrich, Neal Adams, and Dick Gordano.

According to Bleeding Cool, the story briefly appeared in the digital version of the one-shot but has since been removed via an update, replacing it with the aforementioned Batman story. It's a shame since what can be seen of the story looks well-written and fits the holiday mood. Landis is innocent until proven guilty of course but we'll have to wait and see.

Prior to this, Landis wrote a number of acclaimed Superman stories. Superman: American Alien, his seven-issue mini-series with various artists, received rave reviews for giving us a relatable yet recognizable version of the Man of Steel. He also wrote a short story that had Superman take on a challenge from The Joker in the digital-first series Adventures of Superman.

Now that these accusations against Landis have come to light, no one can blame DC Comics for pulling this story. The company did something similar a few years ago when Orson Scott Card was advertised to write a Superman story for the aforementioned digital series that Landis also wrote for. After fan complaints about his homophobia surfaced, DC pulled the story and never printed it.
