Yesterday, we learned about the rumors that the Emmy-winning Ted Lasso star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis will play Ted Kord in the DCEU film Blue Beetle thanks to The Cosmic Circus' recent discovery regarding its casting listings. Now, it looks like the rumor has been up the rest as we finally know the truth about whether the actor is indeed going to be in the film.
TheWrap film reporter Umberto Gonzalez took to Twitter to clarify the rumor that has been partly dominating the DC news cycle in the past 24 hours. He confirmed that Sudeikis will NOT play Ted Kord in Blue Beetle as well as clarified furthermore that he is NOT going to be in the film at all.
It is great that we have the clarification now regarding Sudeikis' rumored casting as there are fans who have been talking about it. While the casting listing suggests that the Emmy-winning actor might be in the film, it looks like they only used his photo solely for reference and it doesn't merely suggest that he is joining the DCEU.
While this confirmation might be disappointing to the fans of the actor who were wanting to see him join a superhero movie, it did not however dismiss the rumor that the character of Ted Kord will be in the film and it looks like he is still going to be in it but he will be played by a different actor.
It would be interesting to see whether we will hear any confirmation soon regarding who they will actually cast to play Ted Kord, who is expected to have a minor role and have some sort of involvement in the story since a character named Victoria Kord will be the film's antagonist.
Angel Manuel Soto is directing the film from Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer’s screenplay. John Rickard serves as the producer. The cast includes Xolo Maridueña, Susan Sarandon, Harvey Guillen, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Belissa Escobedo, Bruna Marquezin, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.
Blue Beetle is set to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.
