Dave Franco Shares What It's Like Auditioning For Young Han Solo Role

Dave Franco, who auditioned to play the role of the young Han Solo in the beloved Star Wars character’s anthology film, recently described what it’s like auditioning for the role.

In an interview with MTV News, the 30-year-old actor shared:

Because of the nature of what it is, it just explodes everywhere. Everyone’s coming up and being like, ‘Dude, what’s going on?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t know. You know as much as me.’

I don’t want to underplay it, like, I’m very flattered to have been or to be whatever, wherever they are in the conversation, but, like, it is what it is.

He was also asked whether he tried to make an impression of Harrison Ford, who made the character popular from the original trilogy:

I’m not good with impressions. I think that’s the reason it’s so hard to cast this role, too. It’s like, do they want to like perfectly embody who Harrison Ford is, or do they want to go a completely different route? Do they want someone to look really similar him? So, I don’t know, I think they’re struggling with that, maybe.

According to reports last month, the shortlist for the young Han Solo part narrowed to three actors – Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service).

I can imagine only imagine the struggle of the movie’s creators to find the perfect actor for the highly envied role. Harrison Ford brought his own distinct personality to Han Solo that it would be hard to see any other actor playing such a role.

Recently, it was revealed that Ehrenreich has emerged as the front-runner for the role. Hopefully, the actor gives justice to the young version of the smuggler that every Star Wars fan has come to love.

The Solo Star Wars Story is slated for release on May 15, 2018.
