Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is drawing closer and closer to its release date, and a lot of fans are eager to see the return of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and his loveable group of thugs-turned-heroes in the highly-anticipated space romp. Dave Bautista's character Drax had been previously teased by director James Gunn as an even funnier comic relief in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and a new interview with the Hollywood star and wrestler reveals how much bigger his role is going to be in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.

Speaking in an interview with Collider today, Bautista expounded on Gunn's previous tease on how much better Drax would be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 compared to the first Guardians movie. Not only is he more funny and more driven, but the explosive warrior also becomes more caring towards the other Guardians.

"It's an extended version of the first film, for the Drax character. There's just a lot more … most people's first perception of Drax would be he's just a big, muscly brute, and he's just going to go in and be an all-action character. But he's more funny, driven … there's a lot more of that. He gets closer and more caring with the other Guardians, and they become more of a solid family in this one. If I had to put a tag on this second film I would say ‘family,' that's kind of the theme."

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star also talks about what it's like to work with Kurt Russel in the film, revealing how much he fanboyed with the Hollywood icon after they finally got comfortable together.

"Yeah it's so funny, I didn't want to hit him with all of the fanboy questions right off the bat, but as soon as I got comfortable with him I did. He's great and super down to the earth, he's a very social guy and doesn't like to separate himself from the younger cast, he's got a lot of great stories, he's very good looking (laughing) … he's a very interesting guy!"

Given all of the stories from Bautista and Gunn, it seems like we definitely have a lot to look forward to from the warrior who doesn't let anything go over his head in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arrives in cinemas on May 5, 2017.
