Dark Phoenix's Storm Doesn't Want Romance with Black Panther

While T'Challa has Nakia in the Black Panther film, the comics actually pair him up with X-Man Orora Monroe a.k.a. Storm. With the X-Men set to enter the MCU soon, a lot of people want to see Storm introduced in a BP movie, but Dark Phoenix's Alexandra Shipp doesn't think this is the right move for the character.

Talking to LRM Online at WonderCon, Shipp explained:

"No, I don't think Storm needs T'Challa, and I think she needs her own movie! It doesn't have to be me, it just needs to be made… A woman does not need a man in order to give her validity and she has also been around longer than him."

Some fans actually want to see Shipp crossover to the MCU, but even Shipp herself thinks that it could be a bad idea, seeing as to how full the MCU already is. She goes on:

"I would and I wouldn't (like it), because Storm barely has anything to say as it is… I don't know about you all (other actors) but like we never talk. So it would be really nice if we weren't piled into yet another jam packed cast, in which you only see me in the back of the shot like f***ing sasquatch."

While Storm has admittedly been underwritten in the most recent X-Men films, I'd say it's ultimately the writers' fault. Storm has such a rich history with the X-Men, but lately she's just been pushed to the side to make way for more of Professor X and Magneto's drama.

Hopefully with the MCU, they manage to get the right team dynamics for the group. I'd even be open to them skipping Wolverine in the first film just to establish the original team first. Not to trash the Fox movies, but if you've read the comics, Wolverine is more of a side character as compared to the main hero that the films make him out to be.

Catch Alexandra Shipp as Storm for probably the last time when X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters June 7.
