Created by Leticia López Margalli, Dark Desire (Spanish: Oscuro Deseo) premiered on Netflix in July 2020, and at one point, it quickly became the most-watched non-English show on Netflix.

Sadly, there are no plans for Netflix to renew the series, so it looks like fans will just have to settle with two seasons.

The plot of Dark Desire Season 2 picks up where the first season left off. Alma, who's not living at her parents' house, is troubled and seeks to regain control of her life while she is still obsessed with her memories of Dario (Alejandro Speitzer).

The image of her former lover still haunts her, and she joins a counseling program with a group of women, where she meets Lys, a middle-aged woman with a mysterious past.

With his newly-acquired inheritance, Dario goes to Mexico to marry Julieta (Ariana Saavedra). However, after Alma receives a mysterious invitation, Dario's affair with Alma is rekindled, and things take a mysterious turn.

As secrets from Dario's past are revealed, sad circumstances lead to the death of his fiancee Julieta, and Alma must decide if she wants to create a future with Dario, or accept the truth and do what's right. More spoilers below.

Netflix released Dark Desire Season 2 on Feb. 2, and it made its way to Netflix's Top 10 charts. The series was renewed for Season 2 on August 19, 2020, following the success of the first season. However, in the trailer released in September 2021, the streaming giant revealed that Season 2 will be the final season.

After the ending of Season 2, it's easy to see why. Warning: Spoilers ahead! Season 2 ended with Alma getting Darió to admit that he actually murdered his fiance, Julieta. It look a lot of lying, steamy sex, backstabbing, and traumatic revelations to get to the plot twist. The finale showed Darió handcuffed to a hospital bed and Alma finally free to walk away from the hunky man who made her obsessed. If Season 3 is confirmed, Darió would have to find a way to escape prison, but the story could get more ridiculous at this point.

However, the growing popularity of the show and the demands for new episodes may persuade the showrunners to bring the show back, so we can't rule out the possibility of Dark Desire Season 3. After all, there are still a few loose ends at the end of Season 2, but until Netflix officially renews the show, let's keep our expectations low. Hopefully, there will be a spin-off with a story focusing on Zoe or Esteban.

Updates: There's clearly a strong demand for another season of Dark Desire/Oscuro Deseo. Many fans on Twitter shared their wish for Netflix to renew the show, so hopefully we will get a third season eventually.

As of Feb. 23, Dark Desire has fallen off Netflix's Top 10 global charts for original TV series. The show was watched for 22.95 million hours during the week of Feb. 14 to Feb. 20.
