Marvel is already preparing for the inevitable exit of Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Hemsworth in Avengers 4. The studio has reportedly commissioned a script for Dark Avengers, which is expected to feature the replacements for Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor.
According to That Hashtag Show, Marvel Studios has already completed the screenplay for the planned crossover movie. There are speculations that the studio may have done so in order to prepare for a future major film featuring the new characters that will take over after the Big Three. After all, Evans has already hinted at Avengers 4 being his final Marvel Cinematic Universe flick. In addition to that, Downey has been vocal about not wanting to portray Tony Stark until he is too old for the role.
Dark Avengers is a comic book series that was released in 2009. Interestingly, it follows a team made up of villains disguised as superheroes who take over after the Avengers are disbanded. In addition to that, it featured the X-Men character Wolverine.
But what are the chances that Dark Avengers will be the next major MCU project? It's too early to tell for now considering that Marvel still has several films lined up after Avengers 4. For now, we can conclude that the script will be developed once Marvel acquires the X-Men from 20th Century Fox. However, it is still best to take the news with a grain of salt.
Dark Avengers is not quite ready to be confirmed just yet. In the meantime, fans are hoping that the official title for Avengers 4 will finally be announced. Avengers: Infinity War star Mark Ruffalo recently teased about this on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Unfortunately, all of the spoilers he revealed were bleeped out in the episode.
Avengers 4 is scheduled for release on May 3, 2019.
