Daredevil Star Vincent D'onofrio Reveals Why Netflix Show was Canceled by Marvel

There is little doubt that fans are relieved now that Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk have officially returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But why was Daredevil canceled in the first place? Vincent D'onofrio has confirmed he knows the real reason why the Netflix series was discontinued. Interestingly, it sounds exactly like what we suspected!

Back in 2018, it was announced that Daredevil would be canceled after the third season. The announcement was not a huge surprise considering that Iron Fist and Luke Cage had been canceled just a few weeks prior. Fans immediately assumed that the shows were the casualties of Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox but Vincent D'onofrio has shared the other reason.

D'onofrio recently spoke to Marvel News Desk where he admitted that the cast and crew of Daredevil were disappointed about the cancellation. However, he pointed out that he and co-stars Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll eventually realized the truth about Marvel's decision.

"I know Charlie and I, for sure, and Deborah, I think we started to learn the reasons why that happened. So we understood what Marvel was doing because Disney+ coming out," D'onofrio said. He then stated that it made perfect sense for him although he believed Daredevil shouldn't have been discontinued.

"When you're in this business a long time like we have all been, it kind of made sense business-wise. What didn't make sense to us was why we wouldn't continue that show or the idea of how that worked and how well it worked. Conceptually, I think we were disappointed but I think we all understood what was going on and it sort of was inevitable," D'onofrio said. He then added that although he was unhappy about it, he has since learned to accept it.

"In this business, you learn to accept things because you know its a business in the end and there's nothing you can really do about it," D'onofrio concluded.

For now, Marvel has not yet made an official announcement about Daredevil moving forward on Disney+. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
