Daredevil Season 3 Reflects The Socio-Political Climate In The Age Of Trump

The third season of Marvel's Daredevil just recently dropped on Netflix, and while the newest batch of episodes for the Marvel Netflix series focused on the theme of fear, loss, and atonement, the latter part of the season also serves as some sort of commentary regarding today's socio-political climate in the US.

Revealing Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk for who he really is, CBR writes about the third season of Daredevil and the similarities between Kingpin and a certain Donald Trump. On the verge of obtaining everything that he's ever asked for including the destruction of his enemies, the love of his life, and of course his freedom, Fisk decides to face both the media and protestors outside his hotel.

It's pretty obvious by Kingpin's speech who Fisk is representing in this season of Daredevil. Not only does the piece reveal the character as an antagonist with the habit of gaslighting the public, but it also shows how Kingpin manipulates the law enforcement towards his side and uses his power to attack public institutions.

But we're not the only ones who see this. Daredevil showrunner Erik Olson just spoke with CBR, and during his interview with the publication, the executive confirmed that Fisk's speech was supposed to serve as political commentary.

"That also allowed the show, for me, to speak for the world where we're living in real life," Oleson explained. "where you have narcissistic tyrants who are playing to people's fears, to pit them against one another, to attack the press, to undermine democracy, and kind of speak to the devils on our shoulders, as opposed to the angels on our shoulders."

Of course, with so much going on in real life itself, it comes as no surprise to see that Daredevil is trying to reflect the temper of the times. Hopefully, the show continues to do so as it soldiers on, one of the three remaining Marvel TV shows on Netflix.

Daredevil season 3 is available on Netflix.
