Daredevil: Born Again's Production Impacted by the WGA Strike Once Again

Ever since the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike commenced last May 2, we've seen its impact on various film and TV projects whether it's the showrunner ceasing their duties or productions getting shut down due to the absence of the writers or incomplete scripts.

Earlier this week, we found out that the production of the MCU series Daredevil: Born Again was impacted by the strike due to a picketing campaign on the set in New York City which led them to shut down for the day without filming any scenes.

Now, it looks like the shutdown is going to be permanent for a meanwhile as Deadline reported that Marvel Studios has decided to suspend the production of Daredevil: Born Again for the rest of the week. There is no information yet on when it will resume.

After shutting down on Monday, the series planned to resume on Tuesday. However, the picketers also returned to protest around the set which led them to suspend the production once again.

"Daredevil in Brooklyn (completely shut down)," the WGA East tweeted as they declared victory in successfully shutting down the production of the series.

WGA Strike Captain Warren Leight also confirmed on Twitter their successful picketing on the set of Daredevil: Born Again. He also noted that "no writers are performing guild services on any of the shows we picketed."

"Busy day for the RapidResponseSquad, or whatever you call the spirited, last minute #WGAEastStrong up to 10-hour-long picket lines that disrupted then shut down production at Daredevil and Billions in NYC and Sinking Springs in Philly," he wrote in his tweet.

"To be clear, we’d all rather be working. The hope is sooner rather than later the AMPTP will come back to the table and seriously negotiate about streaming residuals, mini-rooms, and AI."

Leight also thanked the other guilds who showed up in solidarity on their protest.

"Very grateful to the guilds supporting us -SAGAFTRA, Teamsters, IATSE and others - we know a lot of folks are taking hits on this. We’d like it to end soon," he added.

"PS our understanding is no writers are performing guild services on any of the shows we picketed. They have not scabbed."

The series started production last March and it is currently planned to wrap its 18-episode season around November later this year. Given that they shut down production this week, it is likely that it will change.

We should be hearing more updates about the show in the coming weeks regarding the larger impact of the ongoing strike as well as in the other MCU projects as some of them are still either filming or beginning production soon.
